DON'T STOP BELIEVIN...

INT. UNDERTOW - AFTERNOON

The favorite haunt of Miss Vero and
cohorts. We see Miss Vero, Max Newport
and LDouglas seated at a table.
Miss Vero
is seated facing the door.

MISS VERO
"Where's Viv, is she late again?"

MAX
"Well, she called and said
she was pulled over for having an
Amy Winehouse sticker obscuring her tag...

...but she'll be right in, you know
she has trouble parallel parking."

LDOUGLAS
"I hope you don't mind,
I ordered for the table -
organic onion rings, harvested by
documented workers and
prepared in oil without trans fat."

MAX
"Got any ideas for the blog, Miss V?"

MISS VERO
"Oh hunney, now that we have
bigger fish to fry,
we do have a little somethin in mind ...

Miss Vero stops mid sentence as
Viv enters, Miss Vero smiles...

MISS VERO

THE CONTINUING SAGA OF VIVIENE VON VOOT AND THE VERO DATING SCENE!

So there I was Saturday, seated at the singles table of my friend's wedding. I was the only one over nine years old. Miss Vero couldn't find me on Friday, because after the bachelorette party Thursday and the rehearsal dinner Friday night and the wedding on Saturday, the whole thing turned into one big blurry nightmare, with occasional bouts of reality.

My friend Darcy, of course, was the typical bridezilla and she's a Southern Belle, so that made her a bridezilla with an entourage. Thank Gawd I didn't have to wear one of those hideous dresses. You know the ridiculous bridemaid's dress everyone lies about, when they say you can wear it again? HA.

As I sat at the kids table, my head pounding from the 24 Goldschlagger shots the night before and the best man giving his stupid "I love this guy" speech, it hit me. Nope, not the hangover.

I'm done. Finished. Kaput. Yeah, that's right, Miss Vivienne Von Voot is through with the dating scene. It doesn't matter if I'm here in Vero, visit Cairo or move to Timbuktu, I'm done.

I mean, what's the point? Welcome to Vero Beach - great for the newly wed or nearly dead! I'm young and having a great time and this dating scene only leads to one thing...marriage!

Like my Uncle Reggie used to say, "marriage is an institution and who the heck wants to be in an institution?"

So I'm hanging it up and working on my career, heck, if Miss Vero can be a professional partyer, I might just hang around and learn out how to do that. So, until I figure it out, it's been real, it's been fun and I suppose you know the rest.

Love and hugs,
Viv

THE CONTINUING SAGA OF VIVIENE VON VOOT AND THE VERO DATING SCENE!

DISCO BALLS AND BLUE LIGHTS

(Better than Disco Lights and Blue, well you know...)

And if the Dance Floors Could Talk…
I was chit chatting with Miss Vero yesterday, I usually need a pep talk on Thursday to get me revved up to think about writing… on Friday, or Saturday… sometimes I’m sent in a week late all together. Unfortunately, I’m like a sloth when I attempt a task. Miss Vero usually forced feeds me my A.D.D. meds (lifting of the tongue and all -- mental institute style). She keeps the straight jackets available for when I come to the Beach House drunk. She also tells me to pay attention to important stuff like politicians and who's who around town. It's supposed to be important, but I still haven't figured out why.

So on Wednesday (when I was supposed to be paying attention), I was watching Mr. Posey speak at Clubhouse and something rather strange came over me. As I looked above his head I saw a disco ball. A disco ball that Drag Queen, Kelli Randell, most likely nearly knocked off the wall with her bare hand on a recent club night, a disco ball that reflected multiple angles of me grinding on a random gay man which quickly led to me face planting the floor, and a disco ball that features an intense poker night with all the teens in town who’ve been permanently banned from Jai Alai. Just an interesting location, where Fran Love, spreads the Love to so many.

On to other things, Tuesday night when I ventured out into the Vero Beach night life, I was amazed at the abundance of cops out! Got me to wondering, who’s on the road tonight while I’m looking across the bar at the entire VB police department downing beers ( Safe from driving drunk and getting arrested ). Literally at EVERY street I passed there were blue lights and I was very impressed by the under cover dark blue mustang that ruined some innocent bystander’s night. Regardless, they’re merely doing their job. As long as I don’t get pulled over and have to perform sexual favors.

I’ve got to get out of here, I’m pretty sure there’s construction going on in my head and my eyes look like two tomatoes in milk. Til next week...

Love and Hugs,
Viv

THE CIRCUS IN TOWN

"When the circus wants to run away it visits Miss Vero."

Back from a fabulous little getaway this weekend in Saint Augustine for the Rhythm and Ribs festival, Miss Vero has been overrun, by house guests and relatives and spring breakers, just swarming in like locusts, buttin in to our busy days and interuptin our cocktail hours. Why is it that just because our guests are on vacation, they think that we would like to behave like crazed tourists with them? We have had to endure all manner of indignities, like actually sitting on the actual beach, have waiters take our group picture and worst of all getting up before the crack of noon!
Three cups of coffee at that hour and we became completely and almost permanently sober! A condition so disorienting, that we were fool enough to call into the Rhett Palmer Show at 8:30am! And even though it was fun to say hi to Rhett and his guest Charlie Wilson,
big ole used-to-be-Sherriff, Gary Wheeler, started to scare the beejeebees out of us and we immediately came to our senses! Never again, never again.
Hunneys, when we tell ya'll that we ran to the kitchen for a much needed bloody mary,
well, we ain't lyin!

THE UNDERTOW DILEMA
It all started last Thursday, as Miss Vero was having a very civilized lunch date date, with a very charming gentleman. One of the most charming gentlemen we have ever met in Vero or anywhere else, for that matter.

"Did you see the review of Undertow?" he asked, referring to the Verobeach32963 article.
We had not, but we promised to read it later, which we did, only later was much later, as in the next day. Miss Vero was having such a "grand time" as our Granmammy used to say and we were thoroughly fascinated by our companion and his insightful conversation, that we certainly were not about to focus on anything else.

After our lunch, at a fashionable beach side restaurant, Miss Vero went downtown to see the chimp paintings and the paintings of chimps, very interesting indeed!
Then to Avanzar (we had never been there before) for a quick dinner, which was extremely good, better than we had expected and surprisingly sophisticated. Unbelievable homemade sausage, fabulous artichoke picata! The bartender was friendly, knowledgeable about the wine and we were pleased as punch by the little details like the amuse-bouche.

http://www.verobeachrestaurants.com/avanzare/

There, a restaurant review. Our experience, not y'all's or anyone elses.

When we did finally get around to reading the 32963 Undertow review, honestly, we did not think about it one way or the other. We have actually given up believing restaurant reviews from any news source and have found that sites offering "real folk" reviews (like tripadvisor for example), are a clearer snapshot of an establishment. Usually, only folks that have had a real bad experience or a real good experience take the time to write. Even knowing that and adding in menu selection and prices, and we still don't take what anyone else has to say too seriously (something we are very well known for).

But the calls about the Undertow review started coming in. Viviene was furious and wanted to vent and so she did.

And then the emails came in, like this one:

"I was disappointed in the blistering review of Undertow in the current issue of 32963 especially after your uplifting comments about the restaurant. Having eaten there twice for dinner and many times at lunch, it is easy for me to agree with your view.
Far be it for me to comment on what you should do - suffice to say - I hope you defend the restaurant in a persuasive manner. Kitty has not had an easy time the past few years and now the place appears to be going well and doesn't need a review that seems to be designed to stop the momentum."

And this one from Mark Landry of Verobeachrestaurants.com:

"While I like some parts of the 32963 paper sometimes people just don't get it. And I think this is the case with the review of the Undertow in 32963. It takes multiple visits and an open mind to understand what a restaurant is doing, what it is, and especially what it is not. I think 32963 missed it on this one and I would have to say that they just don't get it.

The Undertow is a come-as-you are restaurant that serves great food in an unpretentious atmosphere. There are far, FAR too many disappointing casual restaurants in this area that often offer menus and drinks that look all so similar... burgers, fried food, chicken caesars, fish sandwiches with tartar sauce... on and on. The Undertow is NOT one of these places.

You can always tell a restaurant that is owned by someone who has a passion for food and wine as it is usually reflected in the little things they offer. The Undertow's flavorful, creative Bistro inspired menu, strong specialty beer list, small but eclectic wine list and some solid offerings by the glass all go to enhancing the cool casual vibe at the Undertow. They use big boy tableware and wine glasses that are appropriate for eating and drinking ( cheesy tableware and glasses is a no no in any restaurant and pet peeve of mine).

Yes it is casual but tastefully and that is what is intended. This is NOT a jacket and tie type of place with a county club mentality. This is a casual, cool restaurant with live music on the weekends. So if your expecting otherwise.. go somewhere else. But if you want good food, a nice glass of wine in a casual cool place, then here it is!

So I hope 32963 doesn't fall into the Press Journal Restaurant Review mind set. A restaurant review should NOT be based on a single visit. Please try it again and open your eyes wide. And, while I'm at it, a note to the PJ - PLEASE look beyond the rim of your plate! A complete dining experience should include food AND wine. Tell me what you had to drink. Offer me a suggestion from the wine list that you found of particular interest or value, How is the wine service, drink quality, tableware, wineglasses. A restaurant review should be more than just the what you had for dinner and the decor.

And a couple others, let's just say, not so nice.

And, of course, there was the comment section, on the "Dirty Fork" post, which we never censor and y'all can look up for yourselves.

Now here's the thing kids, it's Ok.

Really.

It's just one opinion.

It's OK, if the reviewer didn't have a good experience and wanted to tell y'all about it. Maybe she didn't know that there was a wedding on the patio (quite unusual), going on at the same time her party arrived, but that shouldn't have mattered.

Maybe she forgot to tell y'all that her party didn't all arrive on time making it seem that the appetizers took forever for those that sat down first.

Maybe she's just really good at writing, but has never cooked for 120 people at once, cheerfully waited on obnoxious self important people, washed dishes or had to smile while mixing drinks and listening to the horrendous jokes of the slightly inebriated - experiences that we feel all restaurant reviewers should obtain as a prerequisite to their chosen profession.

Maybe she forgot that Miss Kitty Wagner is indeed a chef and should be referred to as Chef Wagner, and not "Kitty" as in the familiar, or the cafeteria lady, or one of the help, or in some other condescending beachie way - a mistake that no male chef would let pass.

So if y'all have been payin attention, and we certainly hope y'all have, why don't we just invite the reviewer to an evening at Undertow with Miss Vero and cohorts? We think that the friends she brought with her probably wouldn't swap shoes, pop their eyeball out, dance on the table and that just might have been the problem.

Or better yet, why don't we just stop reading now and go have a cocktail. There's Karaoke at What-a-Tavern tonight...

Drag show at Cosmic Charlies...

And of course there's always The Epicenter of Cool -Undertow, because that really hasn't changed, has it?

MWAH!

A DIRTY FORK!

A new restaurant has opened in the 32963 area code, attention to detail and kiss your arse service is offered along with fine French cuisine and two for one $1.99 Grey Goose martinis!

UNDERESTIMATING UNDERTOW

Just like the way I go looking for love in all the wrong places, 32963 went looking for food in all the wrong places. I was quite angry after the write up in 32963 about the Undertow. Mainly because Undertow as Miss Vero says “is the Epicenter of Cool”.

I called Miss Vero, "They serve food at undertow? she asked, "Who knew?" She then calmed me down and told me not to worry. But I was still mad.

The food in Undertow is merely the cherry on the top. If you wanted a wait staff in tuxes and dresses then clearly you should just have stayed on your side.

However...

If you want to go to a place where you’re escorted on top of the tables to dance to “spirit in the sky” - GO.

If you want to see a prominent lawyer pop out his fake eyeball, throw it in his martini and exclaim, “ This tastes fantastic!” - GO.

If you want Miss Vero to turn to you and say, “ My high heels would look so much better on you, and watch her walk home barefoot.” - forgodsakes! GO!

And all this really happened, just last week! I don’t know if I can say enough good things about Undertow - not only the ambiance, but the people that surround you, range from politicos, famous artists, authors, up and coming musicians. Yes, the wait staff might be a little “indifferent” as they put it, but they’re the best part of Undertow!

I’m sure you probably think everybody walking in Vero are homeless scoundrels too. Although the entire article is titled Undertow: struggling against the current - Undertow is LEAST of the restaurants to have been hit by the economy which is something that Kitty Wagner should definitely pride herself on. So all in all if I can offer a suggestion, keep your presence at the Chop House, seems more your style (consistent and all).

Is that mean??

Miss Vero lets me vent, I feel better now.

Love and Hugs,
Viv

VIVENNE VON VOOT

Now just who is Miss Vero and WHO are the people that write for her and how did they get so lucky to interact with such a ghostly figure? Easy, we’re all on the school board together. Or is it the clan of County Commissioners? Possibly the lunch bunch who dine in fine restaurants and sit in the “buckets of blood” room sipping on unusually strong Vodka drinks before 11 am? I’ll tell you what I know…

Max has two part time jobs, one which he takes very seriously. He’s the coffee pourer for the oversized coffee cup on Rhett Palmer’s billboard near the Ft Pierce - Vero line. He extended his coffee skills and empire to be the official greeter at Russ Lemmon’s booth at Bob Evans. Both he’s been aspiring to do since a young age.

LDouglas is clearly a gas guzzling Republican - don’t let her environmental posts fool you, I witnessed her throwing a wad of lotto tickets and McDonald’s wrappers out of her hummer in the big lots parking lot with a dog tied to the bumper (Clark Griswold style). She is infamous for taking her RV to the nearest 7-11 and dumping the remnants of the “john” in the Big Gulp machine. Some even say the character "Uncle Eddie" from National Lampoon was based upon her. LDouglas, you're filthy.

Miss Vero is actually a rather sad story. She tried out for the Junior League multiple times and after jumping through hoops and doing numerous Michael Jackson “Thriller” impressions she was denied because of the questionable growth on her face and un-kept eye brows. With a chip on her shoulder, she formed this website and vowed to hold Vero Beach hostage. If you look closely you can spot her at almost any venue in Vero Beach - dancing with her top half off, as if she were front row at a Bruce Springstein concert. She’s not married and never plans to be - yet she’s the mother of 7 (all from different fathers) and seems to have inherited quite a bit of money because of her ex step-father’s uncle’s sister’s multi-colored post- it business.

THE CONTINUING SAGA OF VIVIENE VON VOOT AND THE VERO DATING SCENE!

I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness...

http://www.pangloss.com/seidel/Ramble/howl_text.html

Alas, my darlin young Viv, somethings, they never change.

People have started to question Viv, and the fact that I’ve vested my humor in drugs, alcohol, incestuous situations, poor choices, gay men, and the fact that my over all actions are leaping over the line when I go...

out into the scene that is Vero Beach.

I’m merely here to warn - if you were confused before you’re going to feel ass backwards now. I am a Viking...

born and bred to decapitate the useless and drink top shelf liquor out of the heads.

I’m unreasonably young in Vero Beach and I treat it as if it were L.A. because if you hang around the right people it’s as close to the in crowd as you can get. My Character is questionable when night falls...

and many people who know me have said I’m probably going to go out like Chris Farley - but whether it will be the drugs or obesity they still do not know.

I’ve gone on COUNTLESS dates for sake of the Beach House - to prove there is a Vero Dating scene, there are people in Vero Beach that are decent to date at a young age. Unfortunately, no one has brought anything to the table whatsoever.

Some people are just plain Janes - Nothing to write home to your Mama about, right Miss V? I stagger,

around conversations regarding politics, emotions, and the well being of America but dance around gossip, parties, and David Bowie. I’m judgmental,

I smoke, drink, devour taco bell late night, make decisions that are normally frowned upon and do everything the Beach House members (well some)...

have done when they were young and restless. Can’t be old and wise if you weren’t young and crazy, right? Hopefully, nobody is confused about Viv’s personality anymore...

or possibly, you’re even more confused?

Love and Hugs,

Viv

And Miss Vero is here to remind y'all -

Good Judgement comes from Experience

And Experience...

Comes from Bad Judgement.

THE CONTINUING SAGA OF VIVIENE VON VOOT AND THE VERO DATING SCENE!

Our poor little Viv has surfaced! And after a long talk with Miss Vero, telling many tales of woe in the Vero dating world, she is beginning to get jaded. So, exactly what is it that would drive a girl to smoke, drink and munch out on Mickey D's at 3am?

Could it be the lack of available fun, young, guys (who don't mind a little smokin, drinkin and partying), that can still carry on a conversation and act like a gentleman? Why is this so difficult Viv wonders, why can't they just balance it all out like she does?

Let's see, there was the blind date who was older than her daddy, the young future politician who liked fart jokes, the overweight average boy who was completely selfish and wouldn't share his fries and the seemingly perfect date who was too good to be true (he passed out after three beers), and this was in the last two weeks!

And we didn't even mention the time we were at the Drag Queen show and Viv asked, "is he gay?", about every guy there. Miss Vero got so tired of answering, yes, yup, uh huh, yeah that one too, that finally we pointed out that everyone in the room was gay (even Miss Vero, who is truly gay in our heart), that we shouted "Viv Hunney, yes, everyone here is gay but you!" Well y'all gotta give the girl credit for lookin just about everywhere for the right guy.

Oh, this reminds us to tell y'all that Club House has moved the party to Saturday nights, click on the pic to get all the info;

So Viv, keep tryin hunney, but we don't think you're gonna have any luck at Club House tonight. But y'all never know.

We happily provide this evening's update for those of y'all that are not attending the Citrus Baron and Cattleman's Ball, that used to be fun when it first started but now is just another boring fundraiser, so much so, that we gladly send a check not to attend.

MAX (AND VIV) ON MONDAY!

Two generations of Vero Beach High School alumni on the same page! So to speak...

IT’S GETTING LATE HAVE YOU SEEN MY DATE
Max Newport

Tonight we’re gonna party like its 1975. Max is about to take you back and share the Vero bar scene back when rock was rock and roll was roll. Disco made an unwelcome entrance later and really stunk up the joint but hard rock was prime in most of the Vero night spots. We loved the night life. We loved to boogie just like young Miss Viv likes to do here in the then unforeseen 2000’s.

Here’s a special tip for Miss Viv. If you want to turn some heads and grab the attention of the appropriate young gentleman the next time you stroll our lovely beaches of Vero, I suggest you visit this website and break out the numbered plastic. You’ll be glad you did.

http://www.modestswimwearsolutions.com/index.htm
Two words. Hubba and hubba.

During the summer of 1975 there was a harmonic convergence of sorts. Most of the merry crew that raised so much mayhem in the halls of Vero Beach High School returned to our little town sporting fresh new college diplomas and menial jobs to save money for eventual graduate schools. Some of us ended up as doctors, lawyers, pharmacists, etc. and one became a transgendered person (I wrote about Virginia a couple of weeks ago). While we had been away in college, the drinking age had been lowered to eighteen. Many of the hot looking girls from high school had already been married (and divorced) so there was a whole new group of available young ladies out there for us fresh college grads. And where were these girls hanging out just waiting to have an intellectual discussion with a recent college grad? The bars. That’s where. So in the true spirit of Miss Viv, here is a rundown of the night spots, in no particular order, in Vero during those two magical years where higher education was not a priority.

RICK’S DUGOUT: This was a popular club located at the present site of Jack Baker’s Lobster Shanty. They always had a live band, usually from out of town, playing a variety of music. One week it would be top 40, the next hard rock. They had drunken barbeques on Sunday afternoon, usually with acoustic music. My girlfriend and I went in there one night, and after shaking a few hands I left with a job with the Florida Legislature, that is a story for another day.

MR. B’S: This is now Old South Auto Sales. It was a great place for happy hour after work. There was one old guy (probably in his 40’s) who would come by every afternoon and ask the bartender to set up seven shots of tequila. He would down the shots, pay and then leave. He was there for less than five minutes. We all figured that he either had a rough day or was not looking forward to going home to the wife. On the weekends, there was a live band, usually the great three piece hard rocking Night Bird, all local guys. On week nights there would often be acoustic music.

THE HOOTIN’ OWL: Now the Long Branch. Never went there.

BIG DADDY’S: This was part of a chain of lounges throughout Florida. They had a disc jockey and 25 cent drink night on Thursday. This usually made Fridays a little rough. I don’t remember any live bands there. It wasn’t that great of a place. It closed and became the first site of Indian River National Bank.

LENNIE’S TWO: I don’t remember if that was the actual name of the bar but it was located on US1 and 17th Street where the Chevron convenience store is now. Never went to the original Lennie’s on 43rd and now that it has been demolished, I don’t guess I will. Lennie Sutton wanted to attract a younger dancing crowd and opened this place for awhile. They had a house band called George Fye and the Mystics. I think they were called the Mystics because there were different guys playing every time I saw them. This place didn’t last very long.

THE LAMP POST: This was located on south US1. There is a probably a car lot there now but I’m not sure. They had a very good band of Vero guys called Nexus. When Nexus was playing the place was hopping. When they weren’t playing, I don’t know since we never went.

THE PUB: This was a very popular night spot. It was a restaurant with great food and in a second room they had acoustic acts, mostly local. Carolina Slim, Tommy King, Jeff Maurer, Steve Short, Tom and Anna, Glen Muni (who sounded like Cat Stevens), Nancy Wagner are just a few of the names I remember as musicians. The Pub later turned into Club 41. I was driving through Royal Palm Pointe a few days ago and if the building is still there, it wasn’t recognizable. This was a great place.

THE PATIO: Yes, Viv, THE PATIO. There was a great local band, Aberdeen Rock Fish Railroad, who played there on weekends. They were the backup band for Gary Stewart, who was a country recording artist but was more of a rocker in real life. I haven’t been to the Patio since it reopened, but it is the only survivor of this group.

DOMINO’S: This club was named after its owner Dominic Mancini and at the time was pretty highfalutin for my tastes. They had a dress code, mostly polyester leisure suits, and a cover charge. They maintained the 21 age requirement for admission in spite of the change in the law. They usually had a band of sorts. Typically a three piece combo with a female singer and a name akin to something you would find in your spice cabinet. Around that time period Van Morrison had a song called “Domino”. I think the main requirement to get a gig at Domino’s was to have the ability to play that song at least twice an hour. This bar was located on Ocean Drive across from Sexton Plaza.

THE DRIFTWOOD: Long before it became Waldo’s, the Driftwood had a bar and a small dance floor with local groups like Streetlight, which featured the unforgettable one-of-a-kind musician Howie Golub. If you heard this band, you would never forget it.

THE TAHITIAN: This place was a tradition. A true dive right on Ocean Drive. I don’t recall any live entertainment there other than the patrons. I guess the rent got too high or something and they moved it to 17th Street just east of the tracks. It just didn’t work without the beach location. It became the Pour House which ultimately became Filthy McNasty’s.

The place that turned into MARVIN GARDENS, so named because it was across the street from the city water works, was a country and western bar during the time period I am talking about. My crew never went there, not because of a dislike of the music or the people. Couldn’t afford the right kind of hat. I don’t remember when it became Marvin Gardens. I was off getting higher educated somewhere.

Those are my precious memories of Vero’s night scene during the couple of years spent here during the 1970’s. After all of the schoolin’ and testin’, marryin’ and kiddin’, the night life has passed me by. Now we settle for an Eagles DVD (in DTS 6.1 surround sound of course) and a cold glass of Cherry Diet Coke. Life in the fast lane.

Those are just some of the Vero night spots that were hopping long before young Miss Viv was born. If I have left any out, let me know.

And Viv? I’ll be looking for you at the beach.

THE CONTINUING SAGA OF VIVIENNE VONVOOT AND THE VERO DATING SCENE

If Lost please return to: Miss Vero’s Beach House…

My sincerest apologies for my absence on Friday. Between the full moon on Wednesday and Friday the 13th, I’ve just been mixed up, so mixed up in fact when I went on my rampage through Vero I was raping horses and pillaging the men! So confusing when your therapist prescribes the wrong mild altering meds. Do you ever have those mornings when you wake up at 6 am wondering where you are, fully clothed, wondering why there’s an admission ticket into long branch glued to your hair, smelling like a bordello, with feet as filthy as the floors of Winn-Dixie? Well it happens to the best of us I suppose.

Some nights are tougher than others as Miss Vero is well aware of. I’m glad you are so accepting of my late posts or non existing posts for that matter. It’s a full time job socializing and rubbing elbows with commoners. Carrying on and cavorting’ is CLEARLY an understatement Miss V. This job is not for the faint hearted that’s why you have to have outstanding genes to be able to live the lifestyle I do. Of course, that lifestyle will send me packing to Betty Ford in less than a year and make me age as quickly as a methadone addict. Risks I’m willing to take.

Speaking of risks, I’m going to have to say I thoroughly enjoyed our "Live Chat” and I suggest we do it again, except with a little more enthusiasm and earlier in the night for the ones that hit that sack around 10:30 pm last time.

Max, I’d like you to just go ahead and return to your temptation of nicotine - at least to keep you around the computer a little longer and to have the full effect of the buzz, your dip of choice, produces. And Jethro, I suggest you go ahead and just start smoking inside also. These are things we have to take for the team… you only live once - Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intentions of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body. I’m going to get a drink or 5.

See ya Friday (seriously this time).
Love and Hugs,
Viv

FRIDAY THE 13TH?

Ok. So Friday's post with Viv seems to have not materialized. Viv "like totally spaced" or something. These things happen kids, like when Mama burns the roast after one too many afternoon cocktails. It's not the end of the world hunnies. And to be quite honest, when Viv or Miss Vero show up late, it's usually because we are out cavortin and carryin on - in other words havin a real good time. Thank goodness LDouglas and Max Newport always have their wits about them, although with Max's tabacky withdrawal, we now have cause to wonder.

THE CONTINUING SAGA OF VIVIENE VON VOOT AND THE VERO DATING SCENE!

I have been lucky enough to accompany Miss Vero to drag queen show(s), bars, Sunday house parties, and of course cocktail hour in general… what I’m trying to say here is, Miss Vero if I hang around you any longer I’m going to be a left wing naked art dealer smoking cartons of stolen Tareytons… and oddly I don’t have a problem with it!

Anywho, so it’s Friday again – I happen to be carousing/researching this so-called “dating scene” later tonight, I’ll let you know how that goes.

On another topic, I was driving downtown and nearly ran into a new night club in Vero! Yes, a new night club called HOV (house of Vero). I wanted more information since it is my area of expertise at the beach house. If you all can remember before HOV it was Bombay Louie’s and then most recently, Tonic. Both were dumpsters, in fact, when you entered the bouncer at the door handed you a needle, leather belt, lighter, and a sterling silver spoon. Hopefully this HOV doesn’t fall into the same path that Mr. Tom Beaver’s fine establishment did.

The owner informed me that they’re going to have country night, rock ‘n’ roll, rap… I’m sure it will become very popular for the underage mall rats to sneak into. I wish it all the best though, I want them to succeed hopefully more great places will venture to downtown before it boards itself up from boredom! You won’t find me near there anytime soon unless I’m a little tipsy – that’s when I start to make the bad decisions.

You will however find me at a dueling piano show! Where you ask? Believe it or not THE PATIO. Every Saturday night dueling piano show! Where you ask? Believe it or not THE PATIO. Every Saturday night they put on a great show in the main dining room. I went last Saturday and it was hysterical. The pianist/singers mock the crowd and make fun of each other it’s less expensive than traveling to Orlando to Howl at the moon! Cripes, I’ve got to pick out an outfit for my big date!

Love and hugs,

Viv

Gotta love the Patio!

But Viv hunney,

Dont y'all want to sent up a call safety net for tonight? You know, have your girlfriend call you in the middle of the date, if it's going well you say "Hey, can't talk right now, I'm have a fabulous time with Mr. Wonderful!" or if it's going badly say, "What!!? They took your momma to the hospital, no it's alright, don't cry, I'll be right there!"

Just a suggestion...

THE CONTINUING SAGA OF VIVIENE VON VOOT AND THE VERO DATING SCENE!

While I was out and about socializing on a lovely Sunday, I ran into someone who gave me a little constructive criticism about my writing style. He told me I was focusing a little too much on the negative, which is true, and that I needed to lean more towards “advice” which I also agree with. He told me that he would’ve loved to have known the hot spots in town when he was brand new to V. So this week’s column is dedicated to him. This might be a rough column full of stereotypes and statements you might not agree with but for the good single people of Vero Beach it’s absolutely necessary and all stated merely through observations I have made.

Disclaimer: I’m trying to drink Miss Vero under the table so this will be about the bar scene...

Riverside is great at happy hour it’s actually sophisticated from about 5:30-8. It’s when the night falls and the flood gates open to the underage and fresh out of college crew. You’ll be packed in like sardines and it averages about 10 minutes sometimes to receive your drink. Needless to say you get tired of it quickly.

Longbranch is always a drunken mistake and the bathrooms are more frightening than the dark hole in a porta potty.

Undertow is an exceptional place to socialize at any hour. I’ve probably never been in a friendlier atmosphere and that is usually the place of choice for new comers in Vero.

Costa De Este has a unique atmosphere, but it’s someplace to go to be seen, not necessarily meet new people. The people there already have their ties to Vero and are not interested in adding to their group. Not to mention on Friday nights the loud techno music is about as bad as walking into a raging ecstasy party where everyone is chewing on light bulbs.

The Indigo Room in the new Vero Beach Hotel is extravagant and I really think that would be a great place to meet people. You basically fall onto the beach when you step onto the outside deck. It’s got a great piano player, and it’s just a relaxing time.

The Patio has gotten somewhat of a bad rep with the recent closing and re-opening, but if you want to experience old Vero it’s great. They also have a piano player during the weekend and fantastic drink specials as well as food. Very rustic.

Filthy McNasty’s is…unexplainable. They definitely have their own frequent fliers there. If you’re into live bands that play hardcore rock than that is your place! Personally, it aggravates my senses but see for yourself.

Whatatavern is like a modern day cheers. It can be fun, they have great deals on drinks. It’s smokey, filthy, and poorly lit (as opposed to any other bar) but for some reason it attracts just about everybody in the demographic 19- 35 (yes, 19 face it tons of underage drinkers running around).

Bodega Blue is a perfect venue for downtown Vero, I wish we had more wine and cheese pubs like it! They always have an excellent acoustic show any given night and if you want to try a variety of beers that don’t taste like Natural Light, this is your scene!

Szechuan Palace’s upstairs bar is an amazing place to go and I personally don’t think they get nearly enough recognition for it.

Havana Night’s (Caribbean Court Hotel) piano bar is a MUST see and is a hush hush hidden treasure! If you want to get tipsy and not worry about running into people you know, than please be seated in their bed like tables.

With all this talk about bars, I might have to start the cocktail hour fairly early. Miss Vero, I'll see you in AA. OH and last but not least... R.I.P. Lenny's Lounge, gone but not forgotten.

Love and hugs,

Viv

Miss Vero wonders - What is this AA you speak of child?

THE CONTINUING SAGA OF VIVIENE VON VOOT AND THE VERO DATING SCENE!

Just too busy being fabulous…

Valentines day is upon us, and, I Viv, would like to commend the happy lovely couples that are celebrating this somewhat holiday exaggerating their love for one another. Last Valentines Day I ordered Japanese food and took Tylenol pm (the comatose sleep was much needed). I’m going to retract my comments from last week, because I realized Vero isn’t a boring dating scene at all. In fact, it’s probably exceptional to some people. I happened to go on two dates this past week and they were both lovely. It got me thinking that there is a dating scene in Vero, it’s merely finding your type. Which led me to realize I love older men….and when I say older men I mean men that are married and have children (preferably both in house). I’m kidding of course, because a girl like that would only live a life of urinary tract infections and misery.

Please do not think I have nothing going on this weekend or the entire week for that matter, I’m extremely busy with a more than full time job, so I’m certainly not going to spend my weekend listening to the Carpenter’s, which I’ve been told lead only to “madness and obsession.” I’m going to be spending this weekend working and acting as this is just another weekend, because it really is. It’s a consumer holiday, but if any of you readers are interested, my favorite flower is the hydrangea and in lieu of candy I would love a cheeseburger.

A boy I was once interested in gave me a stuffed animal for Valentines day… throughout the rest of dinner I was completely bored and didn’t care to talk to him after that night. A stuffed animal? Yes, of course it’s the thought that counts but most Valentine’s day presents are thoughtless! Roses? Candy? Stuffed Animals? Walgreen’s specials? No thank you. No sooner would I rather jump off the Merrill barber bridge! All in all, enjoy this day of love, but my marital status still remains “hopeful”

Love and hugs,
Viv

SEXPERT ADVICE AND THE VERO DATING SCENE...

...IS THERE SUCH A THING?

Today Miss Vero takes on the subject of sex and dating in Vero Beach. Imagine if y'all are young or single or new in town, just how difficult it is to find the proper companionship. Many young people, who Miss Vero has had the pleasure of socializin with lately, have complained about the lack of conversation concerning this topic. So, we have decide to dip our little toe in the tepid water of this subject and invite y'all to read the musings of one young person's first installation of the Vero dating scene. Now remember y'all, this a first attempt at expressing the angst of trying to find a decent date in Vero, so if anything, y'all need to be encouraging in comments and perhaps offer some solutions. We are very happy to welcome today's Beach House Guest -
Miss Viviene Vonvoot!

Alright, so the dating scene in Vero is boring, it’s worse than boring it’s the pitts! Everybody is either too drunk and ready to take somebody home, or worried that you’re too drunk and would never be worthy to TAKE HOME. It’s such a drag, because when you look at somebody in a bar you think you’re too good to even talk to them but in reality, they’re in a bar also and you – you're no better than them. It’s stupid bars and filthy music! Bar room chit chat is so motivational and by the way it consists merely of how drunk you got the night before.

Where are these people that aren’t in bars? What are they doing? Listening to Huey Lewis and the News in their apartments waiting to find their one and only at church camp? Take me back to 1985 and gag me with a spoon! I want to find the person who asks me if I’m off my meds or not! Where are the promiscuous binge drinkers and nicotine addicts? I’m not saying I want the person who’s telling me their feelings are state mandated, but that usually ends up being the bottom line. I Always thought that therapy would be easier to come by if I got arrested which ended up being true! Who knew! You only had to get arrested to get to court ordered treatment.

Let’s be honest, if you’re new in Vero you basically have no chance in finding anyone anytime soon. Which is why I say it's the pitts! You find yourself having the pointless conversations that are going completely nowhere! Nowhere I Say! I’ve been in them, I’ve listened to so many pointless conversations and many of you have too! No one wants to hear about your Aunt that moved to Texas and your cousin that just moved here and blah blah blah! Filter Yourselves! FORGODSAKES! FILTER! NOBODY CARES! HA!

We are only there for the moment…. That’s all it is
a momentary conversation… and to be honest that’s all we are - momentary conversations forever and always.

With my love but no respect,

Viviene Vonvoot
