I'LL TAKE "PEOPLE I KNOW ON JEOPARDY" FOR A 1000, ALEX!

As y'all know by now, Miss Vero is ancient and has met just about everyone worth drinkin with in Vero and in many other parts of this little ole planet. So, of course we had friends who were on the popular game show Jeopardy out in Cali-forny (We especially loved sharing their life time supply of Klondike Bars!). But who would figure that of the three known Veroites that have been on the stage with Alex Trebeck, that Miss Vero would be having dinner with two of them this evening? Can y'all guess who?

WE STAND TO BE CORRECTED
On Saint Patrick's Day, we asked if there were any other Irish Pubs in Vero Beach and we were reminded that Bobby McCarthy from the legendary "Bobby's", was indeed Irish enough to have his establishment qualify as an Irish Pub. So there.

STUFF WE MISSED
Last weekend- The St. Pat's Parade on Ocean Drive and the Pelican Island Wildlife Festival in Sebastian:
http://www.myhometownnews.net/index.php?tim=&cat_id=News~Indian+River+County
We are currently workin out just how to get a calendar widget for events posted to the site. So of course, we're lookin for any big, strong, strappin, tech boys out there, who would be willin to help.

KEVIN SAWNICK AND PETER O'BRYAN

We made another comment a while back, that City Council member, Mr. Kevin Sawnick ,was out and about in the public and quite accessible to his constituents (a quality that we certainly admire in a politician). We did receive an email from County Commissioner, Mr. Peter O'Bryan on this subject.

Miss Vero,

Please see the notice below. I have been meeting with the public on a monthly basis since I took office in November 2006. It is normally held at the Vero Highlands community center on Highlands Drive, but for March the residents of Indian River Club invited us to their clubhouse.

Cheers,
Peter

Wow, Miss Vero appreciates the correction and apologies to to Mr. O'Bryan for the oversight of not getting the notification out on time for the March meeting. Perhaps his office would be so kind as to continue to send Mr. O'Bryan's meet and greet schedule, so that we may share it with y'all. And, we especially like that he signed it "Cheers"!

As for the technologically unchallenged, Mr. Kevin Sawnick, we know we can always find him on twitter:
http://twitter.com/KevinSawnick

Well have to get goin kids, Viv is MIA again this morning (um, afternoon to most of y'all and we're gonna hafta go hunt her down. Poor thing, she tries so hard to keep up with Miss Vero, but this is not a job for the faint of heart (or liver).

RESTAURANT RUMORS AND RUMBLINGS

Here's that big ole steaming plate o'gossip that y'all are cravin!

Ok, we hear - and this could be someone just pullin our leg - that Dockside Grill had them a little robbery last Saturday night. The story goes that after closing time some employees were sittin at the bar, as restaurant employees do, when two men came in and introduced themselves as the new cleaning crew. These two men then commenced to do some cleaning starting in the office with the safe. After they cleaned it out real good, they told the folks at the bar (one of which we hear was a manager ) that they were going out for cigarettes and would be right back. After about an hour, the manager realized what had happened and called the po-po.

Now Miss Vero asks y'all, is it true? And if so, could it have been an inside job? We hear Bobby is planning on pulling out of Dockside, but we don't put any stock in it because there are just so many rumors about Bobby's these days, we don't know what to believe. We also heard that Bobby's mama sold the building where the original Bobby's is at and the rent is gonna go sky high, that's why Dockside was opened. Well hunnies, who knows?

We also hear, that Ti Amo Sempre is on the move again and that the new landlord will be none other than Mr. Tom Collins of Captain Hiram's fame who just bought Monte's and Rip's old site. We hear Ti Amo will be moving in there later this year.

Another Italian restaurant opening up in town, but y'all probably already know this - it will be at the old Patio site. Lawdy, just what we need another Italian restaurant. We sure do miss the Patio. and we sure will miss the antiques and artifacts that once decorated the old place. Regarding that, we also hear that after the sudden closure, some of said items somehow were "misplaced" and will probably not find their way home. Sad.

Now remember, if y'all want to find real restaurant info quick, don't forget the little green box up on the right side. If y'all haven't checked it out lately, check it again, there's some new stuff or just click this:

And if y'all's nerves are still frayed from the election, here's a little sumthin to sip on:

NEWS THEY DIDN'T CHOOSE

To get y'all started on the week, Miss Vero has pulled together a mess of news stories about Vero that somehow didn't make to our local raggette.

IT IS WHAT IT IS

Seems like Miss Vero has a little schoolin to do for y'all today. That's right kids, we're fixin to learn ya.

We noticed on our comments page yesterday - and we have promised not to crash that party - that some of y'all were disappointed that we did not mention Miss Carole Jean Jordan. Well why? Is it because she did get madder than a wet hen and pull all her resources together and got what she wanted? Are y'all surprised at that, do y'all have personal feelings towards this woman or are y'all a little bit suspicious of the actual process. It's always good to be able to identify your discomfort.

Another question was posed to Miss Vero - "...how well did you say you knew these folks?" referring to the Mel Fisher family. Very well, thank y'all very much, knowin more than is printed in newspapers that will ever sway us, and enough to support our friend and post that letter.

So here is Miss Vero's question, for y'all today;
Why do we have to hate those we disagree with?
And hunnies it's not just here at the Beach House, take a look at our entire country. We have received more divisive, hateful emails about the presidential election from people that go to church every Sunday and call themselves good Christians, than we care to think about.

Everyone that Miss Vero pokes a stick at is not hated by Miss Vero and why would y'all want to waste your time being ugly? We are known to absolutely adore some of those who we absolutely disagree with.

By far the most interesting email we received was yesterday, when a reader, bless his heart, congratulated us on our "web newspaper" and requested "We would enjoy it much more however if you left out the "yo alls" and other Gone With Wind syrup. It is clumsy to read and recalls a period of our history that many Americans are ashamed of."

Umm, hate to break the news to y'all, but those exits offa I-95 on your way up north lead to parts of the country, where some folks still twang and drawl on a regular basis.

Let's review the basics shall we kids?

"Miss Vero is one who does not take life too serious and wishes that more people would just get over their silly selves"

And - another obviously needed reminder - we categorize the Beach house as;

"a humor blog with gossip and social commentary, an irreverent look at all things Vero"

Now we do know that our local news is not providing us all with everything we would like to see, so we appreciate that y'all come to the Beach House. We think if we keep our wits about us and our manners in check, we can all have some fun while learnin a bit more about each other. Who knows? Maybe we'll all get along a little better and make Vero a better place to live.

Ahhhh, collective sigh, if only Miss Vero could wish it to be true.
In the "mean " time, remember, we are a blog and we are only one damn person, so it's pretty amazing that y'all have taken the ride with us this far. Just goes to show y'all that one person can make a difference.

AND THERE ARE OTHERS, WHO ARE WILLIN TO STAND UP...

Just want to mention, we sincerely appreciate the efforts of our County Commissioner, Mr. Joe Flescher and his stand on the Gifford pool issue: http://www.tcpalm.com/news/2008/oct/08/no-headline---200810072159-07vpool/

And to Mr. George Sigler, who has taken the time and expense to have his opinion written in the PJ:

We didn't know nuthin about Mr. Sigler, so we decided to pay him a visit yesterday and we have to tell y'all that he is a very interestin character indeed! Miss Vero was very impressed with Mr. Sigler's gracious hospitality and his words of conviction when asked about the Denise Harvey case. He does not agree with what Miss Harvey did, nor does anyone one else, we're sure. However, he believes that the sentencing is excessive and by the looks of how many people were coming through his office yesterday, he has certainly started the ball rolling.

Mr. Sigler took time out of his schedule to talk with us and then was kind enough to give us a signed copy of his book! We were very impressed and sincerely thank him for his time. Here's a couple of links that will help to make this long story short:

And if y'all are interested in his book and want to get it, we added it to our Amazon Book Club box under our profile.

AND FINALLY TODAY, FIRST ACCESS TO
THE GREATEST LOCAL RESTAURANT SITE!

Miss Vero is so pleased to announce that we are the very first recipient of the Verobeachrestaurants.com first "widget" (that's the little box up in the right corner). Now y'all can have Beach House access to the greatest local restaurant site, courtesy of our friend Mr. Mark Landry.

TINY GOSSIP, BIG HEAD

No matter how much our good friend and real estate queen begged us to have a cocktail at the very pleasant Grand Harbor clubhouse yesterday, we simply could not. We were still recovering from Monday's lunch with our fabulous friend, Mr. Muse of the World, which started at the Costa d'Este and went on to well...other places. One tidbit common in both conversations were the questions of Bobby's on the Beach...will it be moving all operations to Dockside Grill soon? Will it - gasp, close? Will there be VBPD posted on the bridge to handle the traffic? And will this mean that someone on the island, perhaps, could finally be charged with a DUI? Hmmm, things to think about after our headache subsides.

HAVE YA'LL HEARD?

Look, if Russ Lemmon can fantasize about "healing" Vero Beach and luring Mrs. Estefan here to do that once promised "free" concert, then hunnies, Miss Vero can dream too...

Can y'all imagine? Mrs. Estefan eagerly devouring her dose of Lemmon droppings and saying - "Mira Emilio, Russito wants us to do that concert in Vero, hand me the phone, he's on speed dial!"

As if.

Please stop beating that horse, there's nothing left but bones. How many times must we beg for mercy? Leave the Estefans alone and stop pretending that you have an idea what it was like to go through those hurricanes!

A real investigative journalist would answer the contracting question. If y'all remember the comments that were posted to the hotel opening article, many subcontractors claimed there was some payment hankie pankie goin on. http://www.tcpalm.com/news/2008/jun/18/30gtestefan-hotel-open-to-public-monday/?feedback=1
Well kids, Miss Vero heard a rumor that all the subcontractors were paid by Proctor construction and now Proctor is owed many millions still. True? Y'all tell me 'cause I'm not the "real journalist" supposedly gettin paid to do that job.

Here it is Friday morning and we are still recovering from our wild Wednesday. Children remember, Miss Vero is a professional partier, so don't try to keep up. Here's how it went:

We started out at the crack of noon over at the M. T. Pockets Ranch discussing the treasure biz with our good friend Miss Taffi, who by the way would love our support in telling the State of Florida to stop harassing our Treasure Coast treasure people. So if y'all haven't had a chance, please read yesterdays post and send off a quick email saying "Leave the Treasure business as is".

We should have listened to our ole pal Miss B. Havior who very wisely told us:

"You've been busier than a boar bee in soft yella' pine. Just slow your azz down to a trot (it's hot outside) and spend a little more time with the cutest bartender in town. In case you're ready for a change, try the bar at the VB club and Resort. The Indigo Room's charmin'barman Tom, serves a mean martini and the burgers knocks the stuffin' outta of the burgers at Bobby's."

But no, we just had to go to Bobby's where we spotted school board candidate Charlie Wilson havin lunch. He musta worked up an appetite after being on the Rhett Palmer show that morning with the other candidates. Guy Barber was pining for the days when the paper was owned by the Schumann family and we loved that even Rhett voiced his disapproval of the Press Journal. After Rhett's Woodstock comment, (read June 4th post "Rhett Palmer's Hippie Claim) we've been randomly tuning in to see what other surprises the self proclaimed "mayor of the airwaves" has in store.

After some seriously needed afternoon spa time, Miss Vero hooked up with the Secret Squirrel, who for some reason had a hankerin for steak. We stupidly decided that we would try the Dockside Grill or "Bobby's II" at Royal Palm Point. As we arrived we were quick to notice the Barbara Sharp painting behind the desk (read May 15th post "Places to go, People to Annoy...") and Andre, formally of Carmel's, cheerfully greeted us but then broke the bad news that it would be an hour wait! Well waitin is just somethin that we don't take kindly to, especially in the midst of every local beachie poser with a bluetooth surgically implanted. Hunnies, if there's anything we can't stand, it's the vibe of the self important.

So what were our choices for steak? Outback or 14th Ave Steak House. We chose 14th Ave and guess what? We were treated like royalty! And it was so good, we hadn't been there in a long time and we're glad we went. We love to support local business and sure would love to see some life in downtown. The last restaurant critic at the PJ, Sheila O'Mera had this to say about 14th Ave back in 2006 and it was exactly the same on Wednesday: http://www.tcpalm.com/news/2006/nov/08/brestaurant-reviewb-eat-be-merry-at-14th-ave/

Hmmmm, Maybe Miss Vero shouldn't be calling Miss Sheila "the last" restaurant critic at the PJ. Another big rumor that came our way, is that Miss Diana Foote has left. Could it be true? We haven't seen her opinion column or reviews in the past two weeks. Honestly, the person who tattled was sure that we'd be fiendishly delighted, but truth be told, Miss Vero doesn't have any ill will toward Miss Foote. Bless her heart, we just think she was not the right person for the job and her writing was/is a continual painful reminder of that. We sincerely hope that she is well and finding a place where she can wear that fur to lunch.

More Restaurant Hubbub - add it to the list, City Tavern is closed! No tidbits on that yet. And how 'bout Yannick and Valerie leaving Masion Martinique? We haven't been there in a while, but we wonder how the menu will change.

Of course we did take one piece of Miss B. Havior's advice and after dinner we mosied on down to visit with the Cutest Boy in Vero at the epicenter of Cool - Undertow. Miss Kitty always has it going on and most of the young Vero royalty makes it a destination. We chatted with the very beautiful Miss Tripson, who looked fabulous and had the cutest little outfit. She made us laugh when she told us that in the recent PJ story the reporter gave a blank stare when Addison Mizner was mentioned. Poor thing, if only they'd seen Miss Vero's post two weeks before (read July 24th,"Vero Treasure Chest"), they'd have known that Miss Vero made the Palm Beach Daily News story regarding Waldo and Mizner required reading for everyone in Indian River County.

Are we all caught up? Ohh, one more thing, here's a picture of ole Russ Lemmon gettin that call from Mrs. Estefan -

Have a great weekend kids, see y'all Monday!
