WE'RE SORRY...

...but the blogger you have reached is not in service, please check your blogger and click again...

Miss Vero is so perplexed hunnies, the thing-a-ma-jig on the picture do-hickey is not working, and we do believe that is the proper technical term. We are tired of messin with it, so here's a couple sumthin-sumthins (again, more technical jargon) to keep y'all happy for the content y'all crave.

Or perhaps we'll just call it a little cocktail chatter....

Just to get us in the proper frame of mind, here's a quote attributed to our favorite person of history, Miss Dorothy Parker;

"Martinis are lovely, but two at the most, three, I'm under the table, four, I'm under the host."

Which begs the question "Where is the Algonquin Round Table of Vero Beach?" And of course, Miss Vero will proudly answer, "Why, it's here at the Beach House!"

We sure did get a lot of mail after yesterdays post about the Indian River County Medical Center. A little birdie reminded us of the Indian River Taxpayers meeting next Wednesday, when the featured speaker will be none other that Mr. Jeff Susi! Here's the details, in case any of y'all want to attend. This sounds like a job for the Secret Squirrel:

Hey! What happened to Mr. Ira Hatch and Mr. Damien Gilliams yesterday? They were both scheduled to appear in court (on separate issues). We thought the PJ would be all over those stories. Guess the wacky weed smokin Tater comedian got the courthouse beat ink instead.

Interesting tid bit out of Palm Beach today:

If y'all fail to remember just how this relates to Vero Beach, here's a little reminder:

Sorry kids, but the technical difficulties got the best of us today, we'll try to sort it all out and get back to y'all tomorrow.

A DRINKIN TOWN WITH A FISHIN PROBLEM

Ayright y'all, now Miss Vero has seen everything! A Red Hat luncheon at Earl's Hideaway! Just snapped this photo while we were headed up to Sebastian to meet the Secret Squirrel for lunch. Didn't want to get too close, lest they suck us into their evil Red Hat Cult!

Sebastian used to be one good time party place and it seems like they're not gonna give up that reputation anytime soon. Right next to Earl's the new location of the already popular Pig and Whistle Pub fits right in along the slow moving, pedestrian friendly Indian River Drive.

And now our Supreme Sebastian Source tells us that another party friendly hot spot might become a new neighbor. Rumor has it that Lou's Blues, a club on the beach in Indiatlantic is lookin to take over the old Hurricane Harbor spot, just south of Hiram's.
http://www.lousbluesupstairs.com/

Miss Vero has been to Lous Blues many a time and we can tell y'all that they're so not famous for being on the beach (cause y'all can't see it at night) as they are for having live music 7 nights a week. So with Hiram's booking some national acts and Earl's getting into the big stage business, will Lous Blues complete the set? Looks like Sebastian might keep it's party town reputation after all.

Who woulda ever expected to see Earl's getting classy? Now if only somebody could please get Damien Gilliams to clean up his waterfront properties? We honestly haven't been payin any attention to Sebastian politics for a very long time, but here it is 'bout ten or so years since we've checked in and Damien is still Sebastian's red headed stepchild. At least the man's consistent.

WHAT'S UP IN WABASSO?
On our way back from lunch, we thought we'd scoop up some treats from The Fresh Mozzarella Company in Wabasso. As we pulled up we spied a small sign in the window saying that they were finally taking a vacation - in August, but a hand written sign on the door simply said "They're Gone!". A quick peek in the window confirmed an empty store.

Left Wabasso to travel further south to vote at the Indian River Library, but couldn't find a parkin spot! Way too many cars with LOAR stickers parked out front. And Sheriff wanna-be-probably-gonnabe, Mr. Loar himself in the parking lot with Mrs. Bob Solari, checkin out a fender of a car that mighta been just scraped a little. Never did get to park, so we'll try again another day. Heck, almost happy hour anyway...

A SWARM OF LOCALS

This is the view kids, early morning at the Costa d'Este. Miss Vero checked in on Friday and with our companion, pretty much had the place to ourselves. The folks there were oh so sweet and friendly and the atmosphere was sultry and laid back, until...

The locals arrived. We had us an early dinner and cocktails and noticed the place fillin up faster than a run on three dollar gas. Hunnies, there were all kinds of local folks posin like they had paparazzi chasin them and lookin all anorexic-skinny. They were all there, every manner of local, from the Moorings mavens to the beachie Lacoste clad, sockless, self importants. What a beautiful resort to have in Vero, we sure hope the lovely Mr. and Mrs. Estefan don't have to suffer too much with these types.

Our dinner was honestly some of the best food we've ever had in Vero Beach and we thought the staff was very attentive and professional. When we were just about to leave- who should up and sit next to Miss Vero but none other than Carl Hiaasen! Well, well well. Now y'all know Miss Vero just couldn't mind her manners. We said "Excuse me, but you're Carl Hiaasen." And he got to grinnin like he does in his Miami Herald photo, he looked so pleased that an adoring fan recognized him. But y'all know that weren't the case, cause he done lost that smile real fast when Miss Vero asked how a self proclaimed Florida environmentalist could move to a place like Vero and start playing golf. Mr. Hiaasen huffed "Well, you're here, aren't you?" Before answering that, Miss Vero looked over and noticed that the Mrs. was givin us the old evil eye and the server was comin over to get their order so we politely exited by saying "The food is very good, enjoy your dinner." Then we left.

We went outside to the pool that had also become very crowded and loud. Now, when Miss Vero tells y'all that there was every manner of local there we mean it, cause who should walk in next but Bonnie and Damian Gilliams - The Donald Trump of Sebastian! Lawdy children, talk about a cast of characters!

Miss Vero and company retreated to our very comfortable room to hide out till everyone had gone. We did manage to come back down at 1:00 AM and had the place all to ourselves again. Our one complaint for the evening was the fact that the only bottled water available was a giant $8 Fiji water that had to travel way too far to be featured at a "green" hotel.

We had breakfast the next morning and for a little while, we were with the only two other parties that were staying at the hotel and then... the locals arrived. The morning staff was not as, let's just say, efficient as the evening crew and when the beachies were not being attended to fast enuf, it was hee-larrious! Miss Vero almost fell on the floor laughin when some ole ancient J.I. type walked right into the kitchen lookin for immediate attention!

Here's what we have to say about that -
If one is privileged enough to afford luxury hotels and dinners, one has a responsibility to understand that it is exactly that - a privilege and not a right to be served and attended to.
In other words...what in the H. E. double toothpicks do y'all have to be cranky about? Some poor hardworkin minimum wage employee is just not kissing y'alls behinds fast enuf? Puh-leeese.
We haven't seen this much attitude and posin in one place since we done left the hills of Beverly.

Anyhoo, we took a lotta pictures and wrote up serious reviews for both the hotel and the restaurant and posted it on Tripadvisor.com. Apparently it takes a little while to post, because it has to be reviewed by their editors. We'll let y'all know as soon as its up, Miss Vero is really getting good at the picture takin and we want y'all to see them. We'll also transfer the restaurant review to the new verobeachrestaurants.com site that we told y'all about on Friday.

MISS VERO GIVES MR LEMMON HIS PROPS
We got a very funny email from a little birdie who let us know that Mr. Lemmon is none too happy with Miss Vero. Supposedly Mr. Lemmon thinks we are mean and nasty to him, but we are not one bit mean compared to some of his TCPalm readers that'd like to tear him up good. On Saturday Mr. Lemmon wrote his best column EVER.
Yup, that what we said children, let Miss Vero say it again - his best column EVER.
http://www.tcpalm.com/news/2008/jun/28/30gtlife-is-still-hard-for-the-big-easy/?feedback=1#comments
His article about N'Orleans was genuinely heartfelt, informative and important in reminding us about people, but for the grace of god go us. Of course on Sunday, he went back to being ole lemmondropping Russ. However, let it be said that Miss Vero gives credit when credit is due.

Enjoy the show, we'll be here all week, thank y'all very much!

MUCK IN FELLSMERE

Nope, this is NOT in Fellsmere, however, Miss Vero will explain all in due time chickadees.

Yesterday we stuck our tow in the muck that is Fellsmere, but Miss Vero bets that few of y'all know the history of this town. Fellsmere, believe it or not, was once in the running to be the capital of Florida, it sure was conveniently located in the center of the state. Fellsmere also had the distinct honor of having women vote in 1915, four years before the amendment to the constitution. There was a railroad connecting Fellsmere to Sebastian and a cattle trail west to Tampa. There was also another city called Brooksville, which was wiped off the map completely by some nasty Florida weather (sound familiar?). Anyhoo, there's a ton of this sort of info in the Library if-in y'all are interested and Miss Vero has better things to do than to keep teachin y'all history.
http://www.cityoffellsmere.org/

What Miss Vero will do is give you a quickie, day tripping tour of what to see and do. First - drive real slow cause the Fellsmere po-po are very attentive to that speed limit thang. In fact get yoself a designated driver because y'all know with Miss Vero, there will be alkeehol involved. Go to Giseppee's and have the best damn pizza in the county. Don't argue with us, it is the best damn pizza.

Then take a little riding tour of downtown on a street known as Broadway, this should take you about a minute. Or, just park and hoof it around but don't miss the historic church or the old Fellsmere Inn that some fool bought from Miss Margaret and thinks they can turn a profit. Miss Vero really liked the days when the previous owner and Fellsmere native, Miss Margaret had her little funky antique shop there. Again, another place with a lot of forgotten history.

By now y'all will have noticed Marsh Landing.
http://www.florida-secrets.com/Restaurants/EC/Marsh.htm

Go on in and look at all the groovey pics and stuff on the walls. Maybe, if-in y'all are lucky, Miss Fran Adams will be there, she is the owner and the Queen of Fellsmere. Start the cocktail hour at their new bar (Miss Vero is thrilled to see Miss Fran serving alkeehol!). Get your driver a sweet tea in a mason jar to sip on. Profusely apologize for not eatin there, not because the food's not fabulous, but because y'all just had the best damn pizza at Guiseppe's and we must save room for alkeehol. Promise Miss Fran y'all will be back and keep that promise.

Now comes the fun part. Drive west on 512 towards nowhere till y'all see the "Sugar Shack" on the right. Sit yoself down at the bar and try to get drunker than the bartender. Just try, Miss Vero can't even do it! and we're not talkin about Big Barb neither. By the way, ask about Big Barb, Miss Vero always liked her. Get everyone riled up big time by askin who "Damian Gilliams" is. This is where the designated driver comes in handy, cause now it's time to go.

YEEHAW JUCTION - GATEWAY TO KENANSVILLE!

Tell your driver that y'all want to go to YeeHaw Junction. Of course the driver will think y'all are stoopid drunk and while this is probably the case, somehow convince them to take you to YeeHaw. At the corner of route 60 and 441, take notice of the Desert Inn, where they "Always pass all health inspections". Good thing cause, y'all might just have to stay there some day, maybe that day. http://www.desertinnrestaurant.com/

Drive north on 441 over and under the Florida turnpike that bypassed and thereby killed a town called Kenansville. At the corner of 441 and Canoe Creek Road, take a left.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kenansville,_Florida

It is there in the ghost town of Kenansville, that you will find two remarkable things. First on the left the (reportedly original) Heartbreak Hotel of Elvis fame. Stop in, somebody fixed it up real cute and they have a little gift shop and everything.
http://www.ghosttowns.com/states/fl/kenansville.html

And second, just a little ways down the road, you will see that sign posted at the beginning of today's story, The Lake Marion Restaurant and Grocery - which has the BEST CATFISH IN THE STATE OF FLORIDA! And don't go tellin Miss Vero about Lightsey's down in Okeechobee, we know all about that. Besides, The Lake Marion Restaurant also has the best swamp cabbage. By now y'all should be needin somethin to soak up the alkeehol. Enjoy!

Now go brush up on your Florida history and make Miss Vero proud, cause tomorrow we have a real treat for y'all:

SUPER DELUXE EDITION OF THE BEACH HOUSE - CHARLIE CRIST PIPER VISIT, RUSS LEMMON SIGHTING, FABULOUS PARTY AT THE UNDERTOW, MISS VERO'S SEX AND THE CITY SOIREE

So we'll see y'all tomorrow, right?
