CONTROVERSIAL LA CAGE!

A wonderful, extraordinary and oh so professional Broadway production greeted us at the Riverside Theater this week, in the production of La Cage Aux Folles! For those of y'all that don't know the story:

Two old queens, Georges and Albin (one prone to drag) are thrown in a tizzy when their grown up and needed to be slapped more, ungrateful son, returns home from cavorting with ultra conservative holy rollin thumpers, only to announce he has breeding intentions, which rips out the heart of his poor mother Albin, who he then further degrades, by trying to hide her along with the fabulous love she has worshiped upon him, literally in the damn closet! Quick thinking friend and fag hag, Miss Jaqueline uses Rovian style trickery to oust the conservative interlopers who are having a bit too much fun (but as we all know, will denounce said fun as soon as they get back to the country club or find themselves in a voting booth) and quickly fabulizes them, pimping them out properly on stage before returning them to their native habitat of intolerance and self importance. Lessons learned? We can only hope.

Oh well, that's our version, here's another:

Now let's talk about the Riverside production. Fabulous, simply fabulous. The immense range of talent in that theater continues to amaze us. And no, it isn't, as y'all know, the fact that Miss Vero is enamored with Drag Queens, yet that was definitely a plus. This time the house was packed with a range of folks, who were most happy to give a standing ovation to the outstanding and ubertalented cast.

Benjamin Howes (Albin) was beyond amazing, he should be carried around by the chorus boys all over town and showered with roses! And the voice of Richard White - beyond compare! The nightclub scenes made us think that perhaps Miss Liza Minnelli herself would appear and the chorus boys could always get a second gig with Cirque de Solei considering the acrobatic and perfectly choreographed performances they displayed. Future RuPaul impersonator, J. Cameron Barnett continued to steal scenes while the stage lighting hypnotized us and we were appreciative of the cute, compact and complimentary orchestra! And the costumes! Yes, it all came together flawlessly. So of course, if y'all have a chance we highly recommend that you get tickets and see this show.

Did we mention that this performance got a standing ovation? Yes we did. And it made us wonder as we watched all the Chanel bag toting, perfect bob hair, pink and lime green wearing ladies with their khaki slacks and blue blazered beachie husbands, clap, clap, clapping to the story of struggle that these two homosexuals had to endure in order to raise a child and meet with the child's future in-laws, while trying to maintain some sort of dignity in the face of discrimination!

Yes, we wondered. Clap, clap, clap, that was a fine play! Indeed. Are these the same people who voted no on Amendment 2 this year? Are they they same people who would deny the right to adopt? In Republican Indian River County we had to wonder.

Well hunnies, leave it to Miss Vero to turn the spotlight on the audience!
Lessons learned? We can only hope.

PLANS FOR VD?

Valentine's Day, silly. Now that LDouglas has graciously explained all we need to know about chocolate, BlessUrHeart gave us the tip about Faith, Hope and Chocolate in Downtown Vero and Max reminded us not to be stupid in the car by either talking on the phone and/or smokin the wacky tabacky, do any of y'all have any other plans that y'all might want to share?

Miss Vero suggests that with all the economic turmoil and people losing jobs and houses, that we all try to be civilized and show a little more kindness to one another. We must agree with one thing Mr. Lemmon said today:

"I’ll tell you, the lack of compassion in a situation like this is astounding."

When he's right, y'all gotta give him his props and this time Russ Lemmon is right. Never let it be said that Miss Vero isn't fair and balanced! Ok, we'll settled for fair and slightly tipsy..

RIVERSIDE THEATER THIS WEEKEND!
Why y'all may ask? Because it's the opening weekend of LaCage!

Buy tickets, it'll be fabulous fun! Because if y'all don't know by now, that Miss Vero loves us some Drag Queens, than y'all have not been payin attention.

In fact, we've been thinkin about startin a little drinking game - stop reading and take a big ole swig of your martini, everytime y'all read the word "fabulous" at the Beach House. What, no martini? Get up and go make one, we''ll wait...

Ready? Ok, FABULOUS!

NEW RESTAURANT OPENS, SQUIRTS ALKEEHAUL IN YOUR MOUTH!

Yup that's what we heard. The new Fujiyama Steakhouse opened last week and they put on quite a show, goin so far as to squirtin Sake in y'all's mouth during the dinner festivities. We must try this and can't wait to check it out. It's located behind the Olive Garden out on State road 60. There hasn't been a Japanese steakhouse in the area since the one that was located in Royal Palm Pointe closed many years ago.

So if there's anything y'all want to to suggest or share for Valentine's weekend, let us know!

HEPCAT IN THE HAT

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/alltherage/2009/01/inaugural-hat-t.html

Everybody's all about the hat. Yesterday, it was all about Miss Aretha's hat as it should be, but last week it was all about the hat at the Indian River County Taxpayers meeting. Miss Vero has received more emails about the hat than we ever could imagine. Oh! and by the way - why is it, that y'all want a private audience With Miss Vero via email, but y'all are not hitting the comments? Hmmmm? C'mon y'all, yes you liberals, dissidents and artistic types, come out, come out wherever y'all have been hiding for the last eight years! Oh my, we are suddenly channeling Glinda, the Good Witch of the North, explainin to the Munchkins that the wicked ole witch is dead. Now hunnies, that was a hat!

Hold on, it'll pass...too much inaugural champagne last night.

Where were we? The hat! THE HAT! "Is there a picture of the hat?" "Who was wearing the hat?" "I was there, I saw the hat too!" and on and on. The only thing this enthusiasm indicates to Miss Vero, is that it takes only a smidgen of fabulous fashion in town to make everybody sit up and take notice. So here's a little puzzle for y'all to put together regarding THE HAT.

Take one hat, very similar to this (not as fabulous) example:

And add it to the very fashionable, Miss Dianne Lininger, who wrote us this very lovely email explaining and ending, THE HAT mystery.

Dear Miss Vero,
I am the lady under the most fabulous hat ever to be seen in Vero at the Jan. 14 Taxpayer's Luncheon. The hat was a gift from Rose Spytek. After what you wrote, it has become my favorite. Now all my other hats are jealous!

Dianne Lininger

And here is some info and a photo of the very fashionable Miss Dianne: http://tc.yourhub.com/User.aspx?UserID=65165

Now, imagine the above hat (yet more fabulous) on the crown of (more beautiful in person) Miss Dianne and wha-la! There y'all have it, fabulous fashion in Vero exists!

Well, now that we have that all cleared up, let's continue, shall we kids? As we awoke at the crack of noon from our post inaugural party slumber and mixed our morning bloody marys, Miss Vero pleasantly remembers the crowds at the Epicenter of Cool - Undertow, last night. We see that the TCPalm sent some one out in the light of day to capture the actual inauguration, but the real party began after dark and went till closing, to put it as we heard it, "Don't everybody don't know that."

And what a gathering! Most of the Miss Vero gang was on hand, although we were feeling sorry for Miss B.Havior, who had to leave early due to the Du Roseland's inconsiderate scheduling of high colonics this morning.

We met some interesting new people and had a wonderful time. Artists and activists abound! And we were especially happy to see Mr. Ken Daige arrive after the City Council meeting with his lovely wife and applaud him for continuing to be vigilant of the political process in town.

Lots of conversation last night was political, however Miss Vero's fine tuned big ear picked up only local political patter and the big topic was in support of Mr. Kenric Ward's column on Sunday, suggesting we get to know a local developer a little better:
http://www.tcpalm.com/news/2009/jan/18/kenric-ward-palm-beach-corruption-laps-treasure-co/?feedback=1#comments

Of course now, this explains the fashion choices of Mr. Charlie Wilson and his affection for badly tailored pin stripe suits! (Because with us, it's all about fashion and as y'all know perception is reality.) Not only have we surmised that Mr. Charlie Wilson is indeed straight and single but on further examination of his fashion sense, we must also surmise that his attempt to appear "connected" is somewhat lacking and this entire pointless paragraph is only being used as as segue to our review of "Breaking Legs" at the Riverside Theater.

Keepin up with Miss Vero? Good. Because honestly we think we're still giddy about the election and all.

Ok where were we again?

Hmmm, "Breaking Legs" at The Riverside Theater. Ok, did y'all ever try to make Jello and it didn't well, gel? Y'all have a perfectly good package of Jello, just the right amount and temperature of cold and hot water, perfectly good working fridge and the timing is just right, but somehow it just doesn't make Jello? Did that ever happen to y'all? Well that's what "Breaking Legs" was like for us when we attended last week at Riverside. There was absolutely nothing wrong with any of the components of this production. From the amazing cast, who were flawless, to the timing, pace and production design (real Italian restaurants look less authentic than this set). Every detail was in place including the intermission music and the end of the first act was high-larious! We can't think of any reason not to see this production before it ends on February 1st. Sometimes when you expect Jello you get Kool-Aid, or in this case a nice Chianti.

Perhaps a nap is order for Miss Vero today.

ROAD TRIP AND MORE!

Ahhright hunnies, get out your calendars or your i-somethings or your chisel and hammer or whatever it is y'all use to save the date, here's some good times in the next few weeks to look forward to and although we love Fellsmere, that ole frog leg festival that Max was talking about yesterday, just isn't anywhere on our list.

Miss Vero is tired of everyone telling us that they are bored to tears with the same ole stuff (yet, we completely understand), so we've come up with a few suggestions that y'all might not see anywhere else. Of course we'll be attending most of the events (or sendin a designated socialite) and disscussin 'em all at length when they happen, so just consider this a sneak peek into our social calendar.

First of all, don't forget the Indian River Taxpayer's luncheon tomorrow, where the guest speaker will be Mr. Jeff Susi, CEO of the Indian River Medical Center. We're sure he'll be thrilled to see y'all and answer any question y'all may have.

At a dinner party last weekend, Miss Vero listened eagerly to the story of a very well to do beachie woman, who upon entering the ER informed the staff that she was a member of the "Golden Eagles" and should be whisked away to her private accommodations immediately! The attending RN (who related the tale), explained quite patiently that she would have to wait in the same designated area as everyone else and that it didn't matter how much money she gave to who, because no matter what she was told, this was indeed a myth to perpetuate donor dollars. Needless to say, Miss beachie's subsequent attitude was not helpful in the healing process.

So don't forget, go and see Mr. Susi squirm, uhmm, speak tomorrow.

And while you're in the mood, why not attend the appropriately named "Breaking Legs" at The Riverside Theater, opening tomorrow night?

Also, y'all might want to consider seeing Mr. Garrison Keillor, who will be visiting next Monday, January 19th, but if y'all have made plans for celebratin the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Day, once again, we completely understand.

In fact, next week we should all be celebratin the inauguration of our new President, Mr. Barack Obama. Can we get a hoooray and an amen and a hallelujah?!!! Yes indeed. There will be a party, of course! Tuesday night, January 20th at the Epicenter of Cool, Undertow, to watch and celebrate this historic event.

Miss Nancy Richards, of the Indian River county Democratic Party, sent us a great email over the holidays, "The Election Party You Missed", which grabbed our attention immediately;

The local DEC (Democratic Executive Committee) rented the Executive Courthouse Center and along with the help of volunteers, put on the election night party which attracted about 350 people; including Republicans, Democrats, Independents., homeless people, about to be homeless people, very wealthy people, very very wealthy people with multiple homes they could lend to the homeless people, black, white, and yellow people--maybe a few red ones too--old, young, and all in between------it was spectacular; great band (The Coffee Beans), good eats and drinks---------we blew the roof off------wished you'd have known; or maybe you did and just couldn't make it?????

P.S. just became aware of your site; so answered your question about where the party was------sorry over 7 weeks late!

Hmmm, we don't remember seeing that party covered in our local paper.

Have y'all finished gigglin yet?

That's Ok, Miss Nancy, just keep us on the mailin list and let us know what's happening.

*SNARK ALERT*
We hear that sales of tickets to the Treasure Coast Wine Festival next week, benefiting IR Medical Center and the VNA, are a bit sluggish. Don't blame it on the economy. Let's just ask, what happens when you take a great concept and turn it into a semi private, beachie, charity event? It becomes exclusionary and as of January 20th, that is no longer fashionable.

Thursday, January 29th, Mr. Eliot Kleinberg, the author of "Weird Florida", will be speaking at the Emerson Center. This event starts at 7pm and the best part is that it's FREE!

FIRST WEEK IN FEB. - BUSY, BUSY, BUSY!

Monday, February 2nd, Poetry Slam in Vero! Sound interesting? We thought so too. Here's the details and a link to the new Cafe 1901. We love anything goin down in downtown, so we'll be curious to check out somethin new.

http://perfectedpenpoetry.com/

http://www.cafe1901.com/

Tuesday, February 3rd, The Vero Beach Book Center welcomes back our favorite Florida hero SERGE! Ok, how 'bout Serge's alter ego, our favorite, Mr. Tim Dorsey? Y'all know we love us some Tim Dorsey! In fact, here's a picture of Miss Vero attending a previous event for Mr. Dorsey at the Vero Beach Book Center, can y'all spot us? http://www.timdorsey.com/vero%2006.jpg

http://www.timdorsey.com/home.html

http://theverobeachbookcenter.com/

After getting our paws on a new Tim Dorsey book, by the end of the week we'll be in the mood for a little Florida road trip and what could be better than the 2009 Floridiana Festival?
http://www.hulahula.biz/2009floridianafestival.html

Miss Vero has waited all year for what promises to be a fun event, but we'll have to rush back on Sunday, because on February 8th at The Club House Bar and Grill, located at 4000 Atlantic Blvd, THERE WILL BE DRAG QUEENS!

Got that? All of it? Good, we guess we'll be seeing y'all around then...

ROYALTY ATTENDS RIVERSIDE!

The eve before thanksgiving, my temperate friend Miss Vero, gave the Count and I tickets to the production of “Souvenir” at the Riverside Theatre. The Count was thrilled to have a chance to don his royal vestments and have Paco, our driver, shake off the mothballs on the Bentley Mark VI http://www.rrab.com/bmk6.htm, which he bought after the Great War. Moi was thrilled to see the Count in something other than his sarong.

For those not involved with the arts and theatre, the story line involves one Florence Foster Jenkins, a New York Socialite during the turn of the century and self styled Diva. Ah great wealth, is there nothing it can not procure? Her gift was “purity of tone,” though the play’s intent is to portray this diosonne of the arts as tone deaf, screechy voiced and utterly lacking rhythm or tempo. Actually, this great lady was known to my mothers late school chum, Lady Ethel Picklesworth-Bottoms, of the Lancaster Bottoms and let me tell you, Madame Flo Jenkins was the toast of New York! Superbly played by Elizabeth Dimon, the essence that was Madame Flo was captured through Ms. Dimon’s beautifully cultured voice and elegant diction on stage. Several times during this performance, I had to remind the Count that the vision on the stage was not real. We almost had a row during the second act, when Ms. Dimon appeared in the utterly charming flamenco outfit. He was enchanted with her performance of Madame Flo. His loss of Perch and Danny has affected him worse than imagined.

Of course singing is just a voice and a voice needs a great musician to elevate it to genius. Tom Kenaston, portrayed Flo’s pianist, Cosme McMoon. What a clever gentleman! His performance whisked me back to New York in the early twentieth-century when the new sound of jazz first spread across America, leaving delight and controversy in its wake. However, one wonders why his character was so conflicted with Flo’s talent! He questioned, more than once, Madame’s utter certainty that she was a great artist, wondering out loud whether it was “madness or mere delusion on her part.” Mr. Kenaston verbalized the opinion of the time, which considered Madame Flo was an amusing oddity. Nevertheless, through her noblesse oblige, skeptics were silenced and laughter softened.

Above and beyond the performance, myself and the Count were thrilled to be made aware of another person of royal birth in the Vero area. The Riverside Theater boasts 2 box seats, one being donated by Duke Habernickle! Tres magnifique! It is our hope that the Duke is one of the Bratislava http://www.guide-to-bratislava.com/ Doven- Habernickle’s, to whom the Count is a distant cousin.. While we endeavor to include friends and acquaintances from all social strata in our lifestyle, it is comforting to unwind with others of “the manor born,” who understand the unique problems and responsibilities inherent with great wealth. We hope to have invitations and formal introductions extended in the near future.

Miss Vero, I extend heartfelt thanks for our evening of theatre. It was profoundly generous of you, though dear, it does not excuse yours’ and B’s absconding of an entire case Veuve-Clicquot http://www.veuve-clicquot.com/ and subsequent breaking of my sainted mothers’ cut glass ice bucket, given to her by Wallis Simpson. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wallis,_Duchess_of_Windsor

Most Sincerely Yours,

The Royal Countess DuRosland

Kids, if y'all have nothing to do this weekend, we suggest getting yourselves a ticket to this delightful musical over at the Riverside Theater. It's only running until Sunday, December 7th, so we y'all need to skidaddle!

BUSTED FLAT

Things are not good y'all. Folks are hurting, just about everybody we've been talking to has said they need to scale back in some way. This includes Miss Vero, cause hunnies y'all know it can be rather expensive to keep up with the cocktailin and cavortin on a regular basis. Here's a little something that maybe or maybe not y'all know about - the 1/2 price gift certificates at the Hometown News:
https://www.hometowngiftcertificates.com/

They usually get updated on Friday's (that's why we're tellin y'all about it today) and sell out fast, but there's everything from Rhonda's produce to fine dining to golf at half price. It's definitely worth keepin a eye on.

Another fabulous deal - Riverside theater is still offering their two for one ticket deal to new subscribers:

And our friends over at the Vero Beach Business Directory have an updated gas price guide (along with a ton of other helpful info):

Now for the bad news.

We told y'all on Tuesday that the Fresh Mozzarella Company has closed. We were also disappointed that the Peppridge Farm Outlet at the Outlet mall is gone (we really loved getting those mint milanos at a discount) and now we hear via the PJ, that another Vero restaurant has closed it's doors:

Anymore tips or deals out there? Let us know!

JESUS IS MY HOMEBOY

Ok, two things Miss Vero would never pay money to see - A boy band and a church revival. Yet this is exactly what we did last night by going to see Altar Boyz at the Riverside Theater. Here's a little background for y'all to catch up on the storyline:
http://www.riversidetheatre.com/shows/1-riverside-theatre/4-altar-boyz

It was good. Too good. We almost forgot that we were in Vero. For a moment, Miss Vero thought that we had been kidnapped and awoke in some theater Downtown (New York City, y'all!). We couldn't wait to go to our favorite French restaurant in the East Village for a late night dinner after the show and then to some steamy hot drag clubs. But no, the only place to walk to was, out into the parking lot.

OK, back to the show. Y'all can read the reviews in the PJ or the Florida Today, but let me just tell y'all to make sure to bring a bunch of friends with ya to liven up the audience, because that was the tip off we were in Vero Beach on a Wednesday night!

Some wiseacre was sittin in my seat when we arrived, so we were all polite and didn't think much of it till a little later when he started snappin his gum and puttin his feet up on the rail in front of him. The nerve.

Miss Vero was also appalled at the number of folks who left immediately after the show-stoppin song by the very talented John Pinto Jr., musta been way past their bedtime. And there certainly weren't anybody millin about or meetin up afterwards.

Honestly, we're sure some of those folk in the audience, bless their hearts, were half dead. How else can y'all explain the sight of five very happy boys prancin around on stage while fisting lampchop puppets and not one snicker from the crowd? We thought that was hilarious! In, fact we loved the humor, but with a crowd that doesn't get it, it lost some of it's sparkle.

The Riverside Theater is fabulous! We just want a little after party, younger people, a full bar! But this is Vero, we suppose we should be grateful for the sponsors who have supported a great venue and an outstanding professional group of theater people that are willing to perform here at all!

SEASON OPENS WHILE WE "COUNT" OUR BLESSINS...

" The Countess and Count du Roseland"

Well, if this weekend was any indication of the "season" starting it's going to be one heck of a run. Friday afternoon's mail contained our ticket subscription to Riverside Theater and we are certainly looking forward to La Cage Aux Folles in the line up. In addition, the season's playbill -the saucy glossy Vero Beach Magazine - arrived listing every event that we'll probably avoid.

First to return to the area (in Miss Vero's unique social world) are Lady Diane and Lord Albert, who shared lethal cocktails and Ingmar Bergman movies, Friday night. So great was the toxicity of the libations, that Miss Vero could not raise her head until Saturday afternoon. Lady Diane must be using some sort of metric system when pouring, not that we're complainin of course.

The exquisite Countess and Count du Roseland have returned from their nips and tucks in Swiss miss land and are looking positively youthful (with apologies to Miss Arbus). Thank goodness Miss B.Havior replaced all the alkeehol in the cabinet before the royal couple took inventory.

Important local restaurateur holds a fabulous party at their home last night, where Miss Vero was introduced to other fabulous restaurateurs. We begin to plan our calendar for upcoming cocktail and foodie parties. Yum.

And while all that fun stuff is going on in the "real" world of Vero, there's even more happenin in the internet world, where we are virtually meeting all kinds of new friends.

Our new friend and gentleman, Mr. Tim Pipher sent Miss Vero a lovely thank you for our post on Friday. News about his studio and upcomin projects are now spreading quickly.

Apparently Miss Vero's word carries some weight and here's just a sample of the blogs and sites we've been recently linked to:

Local artist Miss Francesca Signorelli offers us a calming spot to rest on the internet, with kind words for Miss Vero:

Adorable (and musically talented!) Paul Kitchen gives us a great nod and a wink:

While he even brings tunes to the party (that Paul, he's just so thoughtful, we are definitely developing a huge crush, because earthy musicians have been known to make us completely lose our mind):
http://verotube.com/

And our very smart and sensible friend Jeremy Walworth's site will be featured in the new issue of Cosmogirl! ("be sure and look at pg 28 for a mention of HairForecast.com"), this bit of news comes to us via Twitter which we are still trying to get the hang of:
http://hairforecast.com/

Miss Vero is now enjoying a high google ranking (remember the days kids, when we couldn't get google to notice us?) thanks to all our friends near and far.

We mention our readers and friends today in the sincere hope that the Beach House stays a friendly and welcoming place. Yes, we "skewer" the PJ food critic (uh, yeah ok, the last "boiling of land crab" article and lobster review in the PJ, make our barbs well deserved). And yes, we love to "roast" Mr. Lemmon" for coming late to a party that he was never invited. And then of course, there's all the lovely local politicians and our favorite self proclaimed "mayor of the airwaves" Rhett Palmer. But honestly, we do not have any ill will towards any of these people.

Now, ifin y'all want to rant and rave go right ahead, but from now on, we think we'll just have to take ourselves off the comment playground. We certainly do not believe in censorship of any kind, so go ahead, rules be damned, it looks like there's some things y'all need to get offa your minds. Unlike Mr. Lemmon, will will not chase the "cyberpunks" offa our lawn.

It sure would be nice if y'all would follow the lead of Miss B. Havior and posted a picture and became an "official" Miss Vero follower. Blessurheart, your next right?

STILL ON THE RADAR -

The primary election fiasco and the continual discrepancies, uh, reports emerging from Miss Kay Clem's office.

The brilliant Mr. Ken Moskowitz (who Miss Vero remembers fondly and Mr. Moskowitz might just remember Miss Vero) is Mr. Colman Stewart's campaign manager and has the PDF of Mr. Stewart's press conference available. We are unable to print this type of file on blogger, but Mr. Moskowitz is working to get it up on their site and we're sure if y'all are interested, he'll send it:

Well, thank goodness we limited ourselves to just a "few" at last night's soiree!

SAY WHAT YOU WILL

Well, there's not much to add to that picture, is there? Miss Vero snapped this photo ourselves while we, once again, spent the weekend in town. Not one to wallow in mediocrity children, of course we were on a mission for fun.

Friday night after an incredible dinner at the Red Rooster Cafe, (read the July 1st post "We've Seen All Good People") we made our way to the Riverside Theater to see the Rocky Horror Picture Show. The confusion regarding the over 18 admission policy was still ongoing, as we were told by a box office attendant that children were allowed as long as they were with a parent and sure 'nuf we did see a little girl in costume with her parents. However, the website of the theater group performing did state "This will be a "no holds barred" show and will be strictly 18 years old or older to attend." No matter, both shows were completely sold out and it was the most fun that Vero has seen in a month o'Sundays!

While Miss Vero was taking a few photos of the incredible cast, somebody rudely slapped us hard on the behind and when we turned around, a photographer winked and snapped our picture! So y'all might just see Miss Vero on the group's website: http://www.richweirdoes.com/home/

E MAILS WE GOT AND EMAILS WE SHOULDA GOT

A lot of letters have come in over the weekend and Miss Vero is tying our best hunnies, to keep up. If we haven't responded to y'all, be patient! We promise we'll get back to y'all soon.

One person wrote that Miss Vero was slipping because we didn't take the bait from Russ Lemmon and comment on the Kay Clem, Kathy Hart shopping trip. We'll just let the fur settle in that catfight. What we're more concerned about is seeing the demo of the new voting machines that we told y'all about (read July 25th post "The Counting Question"). Here's the response that we got, the same day, from Miss Clem's office addressing our concern:

Hello Miss Clem! We make it a point to let anyone we write about have the opportunity to respond to our postings. Even though we are considered a humor blog, we take voting issues very seriously. We respectfully ask that you might put the video demonstration of the voting machines on the Supervisor of Elections website. If this is not possible, perhaps TCPalm can post it. It would really put our mind at ease to see the demonstration before we vote. Thank you so much. Sincerely,Miss Vero PS. There's also a really good picture of you from the parade on our July 4th post, if you haven't seen it!

As of this morning, still no demo on the site. Maybe they're out shopping?

MORE LEMMON ZEST

What is it with him? That man is just like a dog digging up and chewing on the same old bone over and over again. And he threatens to trot it out again on Thursday! Now y'all know we hafta pick apart a few things in Mr. Lemmon's Sunday column, right? http://www.tcpalm.com/news/2008/aug/03/remember-the-post-hurricane-concert-the-bad-over/

First he says-

"What did I learn last week? Well, among other things, the 2004 post-hurricane concert flap — Vero Beach City Council's snub, real or perceived, of singer Gloria Estefan — is a deep wound in Indian River County's psyche"

Really? Ya think? But it's all good for feedback and high reader numbers isn't it, Oh Master of the Obvious.

He continues with:

"On Wednesday, I revisited the incident because Estefan spoke on the record about it for the first time."

Well that's one way a-puttin it. Miss Vero received word from a very reliable source that Mr. Lemmon was present at a well attended PR media day on June 17th, where Mrs. Estefan gave several interviews. That ole Russ! He was so kind to wait six weeks after the opening hoopla to fade, then write that for us on a slow news week!

COMMON GROUND AND IRNA

Miss Vero has e mailed (read July 31st post "Grow Up") asking for a comment from both groups. No official word yet, but lots of stuff from interested parties. One letter from John's Island caught our attention. The writer is extremely opposed to charter and IRNA and urges their fellow JIer's to vote for specific candidates. Along those lines there's an editorial by Joel Tyson from Fellsmere that y'all might find interesting: http://www.tcpalm.com/news/2008/aug/01/joel-tyson-fellsmere-feels-fear-and-loathing/

AND ONE MORE

A reader asked Miss Vero if we've heard any more news about Rip's and Monte's. Sorry hunney, but not any more than VeroBeach32963 first reported on July 13th: http://verobeach32963.com/news/072008.htm

Here's a better question - When do y'all think the PJ will notice they're closed?

And yes, from all the mail, comments and votes, Miss Vero will - for the time being, be the only contributor to the Beach House. Now that doesn't mean y'all are off the hook. Miss Vero still needs your comments, emails and tasty tidbits that y'all send our way. Thanks kids!

TEEN REPELLENT

Yeah! Friday night, party time right? Not if you're a teenager in Vero Beach. Miss Vero is certainly not a teenage, but we remember being one and we sure are glad that we 're not one now because we would die of boredom!

We were visiting our friend, Lawdy Mama who has two very tolerable medium sized children, who will inevitably become teenagers. Lawdy Mama was bemoanin the fact that soon they'll be drivin her crazy because there's nothing for teenagers to do here. "It's like the whole town has installed Mosquitos."

Because of our puzzled look, Lawdy Mama explained that there is a devise that can be installed, usually in places where teens gather, that emits a sound that only they can hear and drives them away. Huh?

Maybe Lawdy Mama is right. There's a group of Miss Vero's friends that are all going to the Rocky Horror Picture Show and when they went to buy tickets, they asked if their was an age restriction. Sure enough no one under 18 is allowed. Although, good thing they asked because there is no mention of it in the event listing.

How could something as innocent as the Rocky Horror Picture Show be Adults Only?

There must be some kind of artistic, safe and fun event for teenagers to attend. We thought we had the answer, the Magical Mystery Tour at the Vero Beach Museum of Art. Surely at $50 a ticket we should be able to bring along a well mannered teen to an event celebratin the '60's?

Nope. No one under 18 allowed, for what we were told was a "liability issue", since alkeehol will be available.

Miss Vero wonders, how will we ever get our young adults to act properly, if we don't give them the skills and opportunities to act as adults?

We have been way too serious the last few days, time to get back to basics.

Have a good weekend kids and raise em up right (your martini glasses), be back on Monday!

OUR NEW BOYFRIEND, BALTIMORE

Let's just say that Miss Vero is not a big fan of sports, but we have been keepin on eye on the Dodgertown saga because, well, it's in Vero. Now that we've all gotten the official word that the Dodgers are leaving and word on the street in Baltimore seems to agree: http://www.wbaltv.com/news/16876218/detail.html
Looks like we're gonna have to get used to the idea that there's a new boy in town.

Well hunnies, we gotta tell y'all, it just feels like we've been dumped by our forever boyfriend, LA and have to settle for our only prospect, Baltimore. We did try flirtin with Boston, but he mighta been just too far outa our league, so to speak. Big Daddy Joe Baird and Uncle Bubba Jim Gabbard, kept insistin that we keep company with this new boy, Baltimore. All they care about is baseball, but we wonder if they know anything else about our new beau.

The birthplace of Nancy Pelosi and Tupac Shakur, Baltimore seems to be far more diverse than Vero Beach. Baltimore is also the home of John Waters, one of our favorite peculiar people. In fact, not too awful long ago, we happened to run into him in Monterey, California and we also happen to know Mink Stole, a famous thespian from the John Water repertory. So with that in mind, we were thinkin, on ways to make this new baseball boyfriend a little more lively.

Wouldn't it be fun to have John Waters night at Holeman Stadium? We could all dress up like characters from John Waters movies and wave pink flamingos at the team. We were thinkin that Mr. Wheeler would make a fabulous Divine, but we doubt he has the energy for it. Perhaps our own Wesley Davis might step up to the plate, you know, takin one for the team. And Miss Sandra Bowden! Don't y'all think she would be a classy Edith Massey? Maybe Vero Beach could become famous for that! And wouldn't that just make Miss Vero happier than Divine with a plate o'pooh!

We could start practicin this camp dress up idea when the Rocky Horror Picture show comes to town on August 1st and 2nd (can y'all imagine?) at The Riverside Theater:

Y'all know we'll be there, right?

We are feelin so much better, at least now we have somethin to look forward to, this Baltimore boyfriend is given us a whole new outlook. Thanks Big Daddy and Uncle Bubba!

Mix up some cocktails and pop in the Hairspray CD, we feel a party comin on!

TRASH TALKIN

Ever wonder kids, why Miss Vero stated bloggin? We got sick and tired of the miserable offerings from our local rag. Oh yeah, yesterday Miss Vero was all nice and mushy telling y'all about some fine folks around town - which by the way, we can thank the Florida Today for pointin us to those local items. But today children, we are back to our ole vinegared veined self and come loaded for bear!

Either we get substandard journalism or nothin much at all. But what really wets our tail is when we find local stuff far from home.

Why was this item never seen in the Press Journal? Why did Miss Vero have to find it for y'all in the Palm Beach Post? Last time we checked, the Riverside Theater was in Vero Beach. Miss Vero sure don't know nuthin about no marketing, but it seems like somebody should be contactin somebody local:

And all of y'all that saw that woman down south who is sellin her house and herself, did y'all know she had some run ins with the po-pos? So far as of Saturday she's been offered $102.50, seems like a whole lotta hoopla over nothing. Maybe she can get a job in marketing for Riverside Theater?

What is it Wednesday? We don't think Miss Vero has had a proper cocktail all week. Better get going and catch up on our alkeehol consumption.
